Dr. Jeanette Bevilacqua is a Certified Specialist in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, and is licensed as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. Dr. Bevilacqua developed and maintained a part-time clinical practice as a psychotherapist (Individual, Couple, Family, Group) starting initially in New York City in 1971. She expanded into full-time capacity in 1989, after leaving a full time career as Associate Professor of Nursing at the University of South Florida. Her clinical practice involves individual, couple, family and group therapy, and she deals with a complex variety of emotional and physical problems through the utilization of traditional psychotherapy and holistic "Mind Body Speak" methods. The Center for Mind Body Therapy was conceptually developed and opened by Dr. Bevilacqua in August 1993. The Center has five private offices devoted to independent practitioners of counseling/psychotherapy, psychology, psychiatry, massage therapy, hypnotherapy and other holistic healing arts who rent space while enjoying the philosophy of this professional community. Dr. Bevilacqua also has held Clinical Privileges at Charter Glade Behavioral Health System and has been a primary therapist in the Intensive Treatment Tract (formerly Codependency Treatment Program) 1989-1994. Dr. Bevilacqua is well respected in the psychiatric "community" and enjoys a collaborative working relationship with many psychiatrists and psychotherapists. Dr. Bevilacqua also has had an extensive teaching career starting in 1971, and has held faculty positions in Associate, Baccalaureate and Master Degree programs. She was Associate Professor of Nursing at the University of South Florida prior to development of a full time clinical practice. Dr. Bevilacqua has taught courses on Human Sexuality at the University of South Florida, as well as offering numerous workshops. Currently she teaches part time initially as the Edith Potter Deats Professor of Nursing prior to accepting a falf time position at Florida Gulf Coast University. She is a former Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps Reserve. She is well known in local, state, national, and international levels as a lecturer/consultant. Dr. Bevilacqua started her nursing career in an "old fashioned" Diploma School of Nursing. She received the Bachelors and Masters Degree in Nursing from New York University. She completed a Masters Degree in Education from Teachers College - Columbia University. At that time she pursued all doctoral course work requirements, except completion of dissertation before relocating to Florida in 1977. Eventually, the Doctor of Education degree was received from Nova University. Dr. Arthur Ellison retired in 1991. Dr. Ellison started his medical career as a Medical Technologist, and received a Masters Degree in Anatomy and Physiology as well as Medical Art from the Medical College of Georgia. He received his Doctorate in Pharmacology from the University of Mississippi Medical School. He later received a Masters in Public Health in Epidemiology and International Health from Tulane School of Public Health.Academic Medicine after a lengthy teaching and research career, both nationally and internationally. Faculty responsibilities included teaching medical and nursing students, graduate and post-doctoral students, and medical residents-primarily in clinical pharmacology and ophthalmology. Dr. Ellison held various faculty position as Research Fellow in Infectious Diseases, Assistant and Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Ophthalmology at the following Medical Schools: University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Mississippi, Riyadh University - Saudi Arabia, and St. Georges School of Medicine - Granada, West Indies. Most recently upon early retirement and return to the Fort Myers area, Dr. Ellison has been an Adjunct Professor in Biological Sciences at Edison Community College. Dr. Ellison has also been consultant to the U.S. Airforce - Aerospace Command, as well as Chairman of Pharmacology for Alcon Laboratories. In Addition, he has served as Consultant to the Ministry of Education and Health in Saudi Arabia, Granada and Trinidad. Dr. Ellison has also been involved in National and International Medical Research in Prevention of Blindness and has published numerous studies in major medical journals involving the Chemotherapy of Infectious Ocular Disease. Dr. Ellison specializes also in the field of Transgender Life Style issues. As Dr. Alycia Ellison, He serves as the Transgender Consultant in association with Dr. Bevilacqua focusing on all issues involved in the transgender community as well as assisting male heterosexual crossdressers and their spouses to deal with this vast social and emotional issue.
